• Why the Solstice has fascinated humanity for thousands of years

  • What yoga can teach us about participation, purpose, and belonging

  • Reflections for this powerful seasonal turning point

Hey {{first_name|beloved Wolfpack}},

Every year, we are given the opportunity to witness a turning point in the great cycle of the Sun. The Solstice marks the moment one season gives way to the next, the threshold between what has been and what is about to unfold.

Depending on where you live in the world, the days are either beginning to grow longer or shorter. In the Northern Hemisphere, the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky and daylight stretches to its fullest expression. In the Southern Hemisphere, the Earth turns toward longer nights and the promise of renewal that follows.

Although the moment itself passes in an instant, it marks the beginning of an entirely new chapter in the cycle. Around the world, people still mark this transition, gathering to celebrate, reflect, and reconnect with something larger than themselves. The seasons continue to shape the world around us and within us, reminding us that life unfolds through cycles rather than straight lines.

This year, the Solstice once again arrives alongside International Yoga Day, bringing together two traditions that share a common thread. Both invite us to step back from the momentum of daily life and consider the bigger picture. Both encourage us to lift our gaze beyond our immediate concerns and remember that we are part of something greater.

From Personal Practice to Participation

One of the beautiful things about yoga is that, although the practice often begins with the individual, it never ends there. Many of us arrive on the mat because we want to feel stronger, healthier, pain-free in our bodies, and more ease in our minds. Over time, however, the practice often reveals itself to be much more than that. The awareness cultivated through yoga gradually extends beyond the practice itself, influencing how we show up in our relationships, our communities, and the wider world. What begins as a personal practice slowly becomes a way of participating more consciously in life.

We begin to notice how we speak to the people around us. We become more aware of the habits that support us and those that hold us back. We pay closer attention to what we consume, what we create, and how our actions ripple outward into our families, communities, and the wider world. The practice becomes less about self-improvement and more about connection and living life more fully.

For those of you who have already joined our recently released Wolfpack Path, you’ll know that throughout the year, we explore many themes, including creating space, reducing distraction, listening to what matters, building trust, working with resistance, and establishing rhythm. Beneath all of these topics sits a similar invitation: to become more conscious participants in our own lives.

We hear ourselves more clearly when we create space. We become more present when we reduce distraction. We gain insight into what genuinely matters when we remember how to listen deeply.

When we remember the cyclical nature of growth, we stop expecting life to move in a straight line and begin working with the natural rhythms of growth, challenge, rest, learning, and renewal.

Seasons of Growth

This idea appears in many traditions. Some suggest that our lives unfold through distinct developmental stages, often described as seven-year cycles, with each phase bringing its own lessons, challenges, and opportunities for growth. Whether we interpret these cycles literally or simply as a useful lens for viewing our lives, many of us recognize the pattern when we look back.

There are seasons of exploration and seasons of commitment. Periods of building are often followed by periods of questioning. Times of expansion eventually give way to moments of reflection and integration. Just as we don't expect summer to last all year, perhaps we don't need to expect ourselves to remain the same all year either.

The natural world offers endless examples of this wisdom. Nothing blooms all year round. Nothing remains in a state of constant growth. The forest does not compete with itself. Each tree contributes in its own way to the health of the ecosystem. Some provide shelter, some stabilize the soil, and some nourish pollinators. Together, they create conditions that support life far beyond themselves.

Perhaps there is something we can learn from that. 💫

Honoring the Solstice Through Practice

If you've practiced with us for a while, you know we rarely teach Sun Salutations, as we're big believers in moving in all directions and building a body that is adaptable, resilient, and aware. But every now and then, it feels good to come back to the basics. If you fancy a quick energizing flow, then join Bre for a short routine with sun salutations here. If you do embark in the traditional 108 Sun Salutations on the solstice, remember to add in some twists and side bends throughout 😜

If you want to return to simplicity in a different way, try this 30 Minute Return To Simplicity Yoga with Bre instead. Reconnect with your breath, body, and inner stillness, move mindfully, and release the need to do more because sometimes, less is everything.

A Solstice Reflection

We spend a lot of time asking questions about purpose. What am I here to do? What is my calling? What should I be focusing on? While these can be valuable questions, this Solstice we invite you to explore some from a slightly different perspective.

Some reflections you may wish to bring into your days and weeks ahead:

  • How do I want to show up in the world?

  • How do I want to contribute to the people, places, and communities I care about?

  • What lights me up so much that sharing it feels natural?

  • What would my life look like day-to-day if I was fully participating in it?

  • What strengths, experiences, skills, or gifts have I been given that might be useful to others?

A meaningful life is often built through small acts repeated consistently over time. Purpose does not have to be grand, public, or world-changing to matter. You can raise the vibration of the world by raising kind children, creating beautiful things, caring for aging parents, supporting a friend through a difficult season, teaching a skill, planting a garden, protecting a patch of nature, or simply bringing more presence, humor, and compassion into the spaces you occupy.

The world is shaped by people showing up wholeheartedly for what is right in front of them. Perhaps purpose is less about finding one extraordinary thing you were born to do and more about bringing your unique gifts to the life that is already unfolding around you.

As you move through this Solstice and International Yoga Day, we encourage you to spend some time outdoors if you can. Watch a sunrise. Sit beneath a tree. Walk along a beach, a trail, or a local park. Notice the life unfolding around you. Notice the changing light. Notice the season you find yourself in, both in nature and within your own life.

The stillness of the forest is not empty. It is full of answers.

When you take the time to sit in stillness this week, consider these questions:

  • What feels alive within me right now?

  • What am I being invited to learn?

  • Where am I being called to contribute?

  • What would it look like to participate more fully in my life, my community, and this moment in time?

The Solstice offers a moment to look up, take stock, and remember that we belong to a much larger story.

Thank you for walking this path with us. Thank you for your practice, your curiosity, your kindness, and your willingness to keep showing up. Together, through thousands of individual choices and actions, we contribute to something far greater than any one of us could create alone. 🙏💙
